ST. MARTIN'S CHURCH POINT OF INTEREST
Originally dated to the 15th century, the tower was altered or repaired in 1637.
There are three bells. A pair of trebles are thought to be the work of John Potter of York (active 1359–90). The tenor bell was made by Sandal Smith of York (1674). The bells do not peel full circle, but swing side to side.
To enter the belfry, the use of ladders between the ground floor and second floor is required. To access the roof, there is a ladder attached to the internal wall on the third floor. The views from the top of the tower are far-reaching.
